Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Yoo Jin Ryong, said that cooperation between Saudi Arabia and South Korea is rooted in trade and culture.
“We are very thankful to Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), for offering the invaluable opportunity to present Korean handicrafts and culture in the Kingtom,” Yoo said.
Yoo was speaking at the opening ceremony of a Saudi-Korean art exhibition “Hidden Match” at the National Museum in Riyadh.
“This is the first introduction of Korean handicrafts here. The event will provide an excellent opportunity to view changes in everyday life and to showcase the aesthetic sensibility of Koreans.
“The exhibition aims to work on a cultural exchange in the field of art. Korean handicraft artists are seeking new methods of development, including linking the traditional and contemporary and pursuing commercialization,” he said.
Yoo said: “Handicrafts are closely linked to our daily life. The exhibition will enable Korea and Saudi Arabia to better understand each other.
“I hope that the event will be the beginning of wide-ranging cooperation between the two countries, not only in handicrafts, but also across all sectors of culture.”
He said, “Our aim is to improve relations between the two countries through cultural exchange.
“Korean handicrafts are linked with the development process around the world. We are very happy to showcase our cultural heritage in Saudi Arabia.”
