Victim to be compensated if fake part causes crash

Victims of traffic accidents caused by fake and faulty spare parts will be compensated, a senior official at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said.
“We have already helped several citizens claim such forms of compensation,” said Habib Abdussamad, director general of laboratories and quality control at the ministry.
He said there is ongoing coordination between the ministry and the traffic department to investigate the reasons behind accidents, especially accidents caused by faulty and inauthentic spare parts.
“We also follow up on court cases related to such traffic accidents,” he added.
The ministry has been successful in preventing the import of 900,000 pieces of imitation parts and 750,000 parts that had failed to comply with Saudi standards during the past nine months.
Around 700,000 new cars and nearly 200,000 used cars enter the Saudi market every year. The ministry has stopped 262 faulty cars from entering the Kingdom.
