10,000 warnings issued to hotels

The Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has issued almost 10,000 letters of reprimand to hotels for various violations over the past few years, Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the SCTA, said during a meeting with the Shoura Council recently.
The government owns some of these hotels. Regulatory procedures have been taken against facilities found to be in violation.
“We have only just begun classifying hotels,” said Prince Sultan. “There is a qualitative leap in hotel services. We have around 200,000 rooms and we have managed to complete the classification process. A relatively small team has carried out these tasks and we are now in the process of classifying furnished apartments.”
“Citizens have a role in making this process a success. We are not to blame for hotels without a classification sign. There are unclassified hotels and furnished apartments all over the world,” he said. “We, as a commission, can only be committed to providing good services in licensed hotels and furnished apartments.”
