The Saudi Heritage Preservation Society (SHPS) has launched various projects to protect the cultural history of the Kingdom.
The initiatives were announced by Princess Adila bint Abdullah, chairperson of the SHPS, at a press conference recently.
The projects focus on archaeological sites, old buildings, sculptures, skills associated with traditional arts and crafts, Saudi customs or oral expressions, and social practices such as national celebrations.
The SHPS has various initiatives covering all aspects of heritage protection. This includes documenting all old buildings and archaeological sites. It would focus on dilapidated old buildings, said Princess Adila.
Another initiative would involve launching awareness campaigns through the media, seasonal competitions, smart-phone applications, social networking sites and activities at schools.
Princess Adila said the organization would also produce reports and literature written in simple language.
One major project includes an archaeological museum where people can learn more about their culture and history.
The SHPS was established four years ago under the Ministry of Social Affairs and operates as a charity based in Riyadh.
