CIB uncovers thousands of forgery cases

The Control and Investigations Bureau (CIB) has said that most irregularities detected in government departments during 2012 and 2013 were related to forgeries.
“There were 6,649 cases of forgery in government departments and public sector establishments out of a total of 9,483 cases in 2012 and 2013,” said spokesman of the CIB Abdul Aziz Al-Majalli.
While the CIB looked into 8,769 of the cases, 714 disciplinary cases were handed over to other departments for further action, Al-Majalli added.
The official said violations included 1,188 cases of bribery and 39 cases of embezzlement, apart from forgeries. They also included 35 cases of rule violations, 260 cases of currency forgery, in addition to 598 cases in other categories, a local daily reported Monday.
He said disciplinary cases included 254 issues related to administrative matters and five violations of financial regulations, in addition to 455 violations related to improper conduct.
Al-Majalli said the board conducted its own investigations, besides acting on complaints it received from various quarters. “The board has prepared a monitoring program based on what it learned about the performance of some government facilities, in addition to intelligence it received from members of the public, provincial governors’ offices and other government departments,” he said.
He added that the CIB has 26 branches across the Kingdom covering all provinces. Special officials cover remote townships and rural centers, which have no CIB branches.
The CIB plays a considerable role in digging out corruption and poor performance in government offices and public sector establishments. It also takes measures to ensure that employees are punctual in reporting for duty and leaving the office.
All employees in government departments and public sector establishment come under the jurisdiction of the monitoring and investigation operations of the CIB.
It also investigates irregularities in financial operations of government departments.
“The Control and Investigations Bureau and Cabinet ministers are investigating a large number of corruption cases in government offices and development projects," Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Commission Muhammad Al-Sharif said recently.
