Construction work in Riyadh’s Faisaliah hampers warehouse activities

Prolonged road construction work in the Faisaliah district has hampered the daily work of the warehouse owners and their workers.
Al-Faisaliah district is the old industrial area of Riyadh and is one of the most important financial hubs in the capital. It comes under the Riyadh Municipality. It has more than 700 warehouses. Leading companies in the city store their goods in the area.
“Three weeks ago, authorities dug up roads for construction work. They bulldozed the roads and still, no repair work has been carried out. Debris has been left on the streets, causing inconvenience to road users,” a warehouse owner told Arab News on Tuesday.
“Excavations have resulted in the area being flooded with sewage and pipe-borne water,” he lamented, pointing out that most of the warehouses have become at least half a meter higher than road level and trucks could take the goods in or out of storage because of the obstruction created by the excavation.
Another worker in the area said no activity has been witnessed in these areas since the damage was caused by bulldozer excavation. “Work in the affected facilities has come to a virtual standstill, for reasons well known.”
“Some 100 warehouses have been affected due to the negligence of authorities who do not seem to understand the gravity of the situation,” an officer working in one of the affected warehouses said.
Warehouses have also suffered without telephones lines for more than a week, he added.
