Jordanian actress Abeer Eisa said she would continue acting in Khaleeji dramas because her presence in those TV soaps has catapulted her to unprecedented fame in the Arab world.
“I sensed the strength of Khaleeji dramas after participating in ‘Hibr Al-Oyoun’ with actress Hayat Al-Fahad, and ‘Donia’s Sisters’ with Suad Al-Abdullah. Many people enjoyed these soaps,” she said.
Eisa’s first appearance in a Khaleeji drama was in a Saudi soap opera “Matla’ Al-Nor” (Early Light) based on the founding of the modern Saudi state by King Abdulaziz. The program was filmed in Riyadh 15 years ago.
She said she was not worried about Jordanian dramas but wished they would “return to their former glory when they portrayed drama in its true sense.”
“Jordanian drama production is scarce now. They are competing with Syrian and Egyptian dramas and are used to enjoying high viewing rates and long-running prime-times. Most Arab artists and producers then used to stay in Jordan for a long time.”
