Habitual traffic offenders in the Kingdom, beware.
Authorities are likely to crack down on motorists who do not follow traffic rules nor pay fines following recommendations by a Shoura Council Committee to implement tougher punitive measures against violators.
The committee, which has recommended amendments to the 73rd clause of traffic regulations, proposed that the vehicle used by one who commits violations four times without paying fines for previous violations should be confiscated, a local daily reported Sunday.
A driver who violates the 45-km speed limit should be taken to court to issue an imprisonment verdict plus a fine of SR900, the recommendations said.
The committee also recommended that a driver committing three violations in 12 months be put in jail for a specific period. The recommendation aims to encourage prompt payment of fines by violators.
Recommendations also include a list of fines depending on the degree of violation.
