Mobily, Huawei activate commercial IP core network

Mobily, a major mobile operator in Saudi Arabia, and Huawei, a global information and communications technology solutions provider, have announced the activation of the first industrial and commercial 400 gigabyte per second (Gb/s) IP core network in the world.
This brings a more diversified and smooth service experience to millions of 3G, LTE and FTTH users, and is further testament to Mobily’s leadership, infrastructure and Huawei’s leading capability with 400G router line card, and its ability to assist carriers implement future networks.
“We aim at bringing leading edge technology and infrastructure offerings to our customers,” said Nasser Al-Nasser, chief operations officers at Mobily.
“400G IP Core keeps pace with Mobily’s service development largely because of sufficient performance and scalability, and ensures positive performance in the coming years,” he added.
Huawei’s core router NE5000E supports flexible networking of 100GE ports, 40GE ports, and 10GE ports to provide a 400G capacity, and can be smoothly evolved to provide a terabyte-level capacity for the backbone network.
In addition, power consumption of the 400G line card is within 1 W/G, keeping energy and investment costs low. “We are pleased to join Mobily in deploying the first 400G IP core network in the world,” said Zha Jun, president of Huawei’s network product line.
“Rapid development of mobile broadband and video services will generate tremendous traffic growth on backbone networks,” he said.
“Now is the time to apply 400G technology. Huawei is leading the development in 400G technology and fully understands carriers’ network reconstruction requirements. Huawei can and will systematically improve network performance, expand bandwidth capacity, and eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks, to help carrier build future-ready backbone networks,” he said.
