Pakistani envoy meets with Saudi officials

Pakistani Ambassador Muhammad Naeem Khan met with Saudi Minister of Justice Mohammed Abdulkareem Al-Issa and Deputy Minister of Interior Ahmed Al-Salem separately in their offices on Tuesday to discuss issues relating to the speedy implementation of justice for indicted Pakistanis and the facilitation of consular access to Pakistani prisoners in Saudi jails.
During his meeting with Ahmad Al-Salem, Khan lauded the role played by Saudi security forces in maintaining peace and order in the country. Al-Salem expressed his satisfaction on the bilateral cooperation between the Ministries of Interior of the two countries and hoped that it would continue to strengthen relations.
Khan requested that the consular section of his embassy be given easy access to his compatriots in Saudi jails. Al-Salem promised to issue instructions and rectify the situation upon learning that a number of Pakistanis were still in prison despite having completed their jail terms.
The Pakistani diplomat also highlighted that several of his countrymen had been taken into custody while on pilgrimage since they were unaware of Saudi laws and had picked up unclaimed items lying around in the vicinity of the Holy Mosques. In his meeting with Al-Issa, the Pakistani envoy observed that the process of acquisition of legal and indictment-related documents from Saudi courts was strenuous and needed to be simplified.
He also proposed that legal experts of both the ministries pay reciprocal visits to each other in order to better comprehend each other’s judicial code.
