Childcare and housemaids

In a recent interview, Prince William told the British media that he helped his wife in her daily chores after the birth of their son, which included changing of diapers. I was really surprised to hear this coming from a would-be monarch of a great country. At the same time, I felt ashamed at the way we, in our part of the world, delegate these seemingly petty but important chores to housemaids. Personal care of a child is his/her right. We cannot shrug off our responsibilities by hiring the services of housemaids. At this stage, a child needs special personal attention, which in the long run help shape the child’s overall personality. These are the most crucial years of a baby’s life and should be handled with care. — S.H.Moulana, Riyadh
