ON THE auspicious occasion of the 67th Independence Day of Pakistan, I extend my heartfelt felicitations to the Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia. This day has a special significance for the people of Pakistan. On this historical day in 1947, the Muslims of South Asia succeeded in their endeavors to create an independent homeland for themselves where they could lead their lives according to their faith and aspirations.
As we celebrate this blessed day, Pakistan has achieved another landmark in its history. For the first time, an elected government has completed its tenure and transferred power to another elected government. Today, nearly all the political parties have a stake in strengthening democracy in Pakistan. We are blessed with all the fundamentals of a strong state and society: A democratic government, an independent judiciary, a thriving and free media, a dynamic intelligentsia and a politically active society.
Pakistan continues to play its important role in the global community. Our efforts for the maintenance of peace and security in the world are appreciated worldwide. We are also one of the largest contributors to the United Nations' peacekeeping forces around the globe. The international community also values the fact that as a frontline state in the fight against terror, we have paid a heavy price in terms of loss of precious lives and billions of dollars to our economy. Thousands of our innocent people and valiant soldiers have laid down their lives to rid the world from the curse of terrorism.
Pakistan's large pool of trained and experienced professionals includes engineers, doctors, bankers, lawyers and other experts. They are an asset not only for Pakistan but also for the whole Ummah and the international community. Along with other semi- and non-skilled workers, these expatriate Pakistanis have made tremendous contributions toward the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and other countries. The government of Pakistan is particularly proud of the contributions made by the Pakistani community in the Kingdom. With its untiring hard work, supreme dedication, and endless love for Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the Pakistani expatriates have functioned as a strong bond between the two countries.
We take pride in our special relationship with Saudi Arabia. Based on the solid foundations of Islamic identity, shared civilizational heritage, commonality of perceptions on international issues and mutual goodwill at the public level, these relations continue to gain strength with each passing day. The relationship is also nurtured by the special love and reverence that the people of Pakistan have for Saudi Arabia, the holy land. The government and people of Pakistan also have profound love and respect for Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Crown Prince Salman, the royal family and the government and people of Saudi Arabia.
I pray to Almighty Allah that the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continues to register growth and progress in the coming years.
Long Live Pakistan!
Long Live Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Friendship!
