Heavy rains after noon prayer in Makkah were seen as blessings of the holy month’s last Friday.
The downpour came as a welcome relief for hundreds of thousands of worshippers in the Grand Mosque who were facing sizzling temperatures close to 43 degrees Celsius. It began raining at 2:30 p.m. and lasted nearly two hours.
Carpets at the mosque were drenched and the rains left several districts and streets waterlogged. Over 700 laborers were deployed to clean the holy premises with the help of water draining machinery.
Civil Defense texted people to keep off low-lying valleys in Makkah. No injuries were reported.
