The Arab world ranks fifth in the world in terms of the number of Facebook users, 70 percent of users being in the 18-29 age category. Facebook users represent 22.2 percent of the total Saudi population. The Kingdom ranks 33rd in the world in the number of Facebook users.
During the past two years, the number of Facebook users in the Kingdom increased from 4 percent to 12 percent, based on the social media report issued by Dubai College of Governmental Administration.
SocialWatchlist, a service that monitors official Facebook pages from across the MENA, said Bab Rizq Jameel (BRJ) Saudi Arabia is ranked first in terms of Facebook users among employment sector websites in the Arab world, and is ranked second in the Kingdom in all sectors. BRJ has 1,000,000 fans.
Zain bin Abdullah bin Bayyah, marketing and social media manager at Abdul Latif Jameel Community Initiatives (ALJCI), said: “We launched our Facebook page in 2011, and are continuously seeking to develop the contents of our pages on social media, taking into consideration that social media has become a cornerstone in communication with the public.”
He said: “In addition, users are mostly young people — the category that interacts with and benefits from ALJCI programs, especially BRJ, which is seeking to create job opportunities for young males and females, and they interact with such channels more than they do with traditional satellite channels and newspapers.”
He said the BRJ page on Twitter has been activated, which is followed by more than 85,000 followers.
ALJCI also started a YouTube channel through which it broadcasts all documentaries and educational material, including more than 65 films. BRJ Egypt page, which was launched in 2012, has a following of more than 500,000 fans.
