Riyadh transport plan to save energy

The comprehensive bus, rail and road transport plan for Riyadh will ensure significant economic benefits for the Kingdom including a marked reduction in energy use, said Transport Minister Jabara Al-Seraisry recently.
“When many people leave their cars behind this means a big energy and gas saving.”
Al-Seraisry said the prices of tickets have to be competitive to encourage people to use public transport. He said people would want to use public transport if the services are prompt, modern and world class.
He said the King Abdullah Public Transport Project includes electric tracks for six trains and four lanes for rapidly moving vehicles. The project would be completed in four years, he said.
“It’s a comprehensive form of transport for the whole city and it is expected to greatly reduce traffic congestion.”
“The decision of the Council of Ministers has stated that all factors must be studied to encourage people to use public transport.”
