Madinah airport work: Tatweer adds strength

TAV-ACC JV is constructing the PMIA Madinah Airport at the cost over $1 billion.
The new airport will have a 8 million passenger capacity terminal, more than 20 support buildings, 2 upgraded runways, and contact and remote aircraft stands, as well as dedicated Haj and ancillary buildings.
By applying TAV-ACC JV’s values of professional delivery and mutual dependency and collaboration to Saudi concrete ready-mix supplier Tatweer, the new Madinah Airport Terminal EPC Project has been able to safely deliver 91,170 m3 defect-free Class 35 MPa concrete over a continuous period of 12 months.
At a recent award ceremony on site, TAV-ACC JV Project Director Cumhur Kaur handed a project achievement certificate to Muhammad Malik Raslan, general manager of Tatweer, to mark the occasion of delivering more than 90,000 cubic meters of Class C35 MPa concrete over a 12-month period in full compliance to the project’s stringent quality requirements.
A replica certificate was also handed to the Tatweer on-site Batch Plant Manager Karamat Ali.
To ensure that defect-free concrete was delivered to the project, the TAV- ACC JV concrete and QC teams tested each and every truck delivered to the site and turned away any truck that did not meet slump requirements.
In this process, at least measurement of 1,200 slumps was made and around 2,500 individual concrete cylinders were crushed.
The testing showed that the Madinah concrete on-site batch plant was delivering 35 MPa concrete at an average strength of 41.8 MPa at a standard deviation on 2.14 MPa with an ACI 214R-02 Table 3.2 classification as ‘excellent.’
This award is testimony to the success of the TAV-ACC JV subcontractor and supplier management strategy — professional delivery, mutual dependency and collaboration to safely produce quality products on time at the agreed price.
