“Jeddah Dream,” a unique program organized by TEDx Jeddah, a nonprofit organization, proved to be an ideal forum for thinkers and intellectuals in Jeddah to come together and share their experiences — be it success stories or innovative ideas to improve lifestyles or even opinions on social issues.
The event’s main organizer Bander Almutlaq, outlining the objective of holding such a program, said: “As the title itself suggests, the program has been put together to share and build on the dreams of the people of Jeddah together. Success in life is always dependent on hard work. So the main endeavor of the program is for different thinkers to share their successes, experience and opinions to build our city as our dreamland. Jeddah is home to almost 4 million people and each of them has a dream. Together we can build a new city of our dreams.”
Almutlaq explained that the program, which would be lively and interactive, was also aimed at triggering debates and connecting different people in small groups.
The program, organized on Sunday at the Jeddah Hilton Hotel in collaboration with the Jeddah Comedy Club, saw about 20 speakers sharing their experiences in various fields including technology, entertainment, design and social projects.
One of the speakers, Rayan N. Masoudi, spoke about his success in developing an indigenous technology and how he was inspired to do something different. Another speaker Abdulrahman AlSamman shared his experience in fighting cancer, and how he took to photography, particularly taking pictures of stars.
Amro Bakeer spoke about optimism and how one needs to strive to remain positive, going by the teachings of Islam and the holy Qur’an.
Hani Hilmi Sindi gave a presentation on having “Smart Mosques” in the city. With about 72,000 mosques in the Kingdom and each mosque consuming power worth SR 500 every month, he said if the cities had “smart mosques,” consumption of electricity would be greatly reduced, which would also do good for the environment.
Kamal Abdulaal talked about “footprint and its impact on our lives.” He explained how societies gained from good work and unity. People should do something for their societies as whatever they do will leave a positive impact on their lives.
Ehab Al Aamri talked about urban destinations and their development, while Yassir Nasief talked and compared the lifestyles in Jeddah with London.
