The Madinah Health Department has closed down a private clinic and imposed a fine for performing medically incorrect circumcision procedures on 47 children.
Abdullah bin Ali Al-Taifi, the general director of Health Affairs in Madinah, said the medical committee that was tasked with investigating the violations issued three orders. In the first instance, the clinical facility was shut down.
In addition, a fine of SR 100,000 was slapped on the clinic and the doctor responsible for performing the procedures was banned from work and traveling abroad pending investigation. They have the right to object or appeal against the department’s decision within 60 days of the notification.
Citizens and residents of Madinah were outraged to learn that an otolaryngologist specialized in ear, nose and throat working at a private medical center conducted circumcision procedures without prior experience.
Fahad Khsheim, director of medical licenses at the Madinah Health Directorate, announced later that only surgeons qualified to perform circumcisions would be allowed to do that.
