Study finds KSA’s mobile towers are not hazardous

A report published by the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) concluded that the radiation levels of 588 areas around the Kingdom, in which mobile phone towers have been constructed, do not represent a health hazard to human beings.
The CITC said the survey is part of a project aimed at ensuring that communication service providers are abiding by the stipulated restrictions on radiation emissions from wireless stations.
A study conducted last year by university experts showed that the levels of radiation produced by these towers are a hundred times lower than those specified by international standards. Specialists measured the levels of electromagnetic radiations released from the stations and analyzed the quantities of radiation citizens are exposed to.
The project was carried out in collaboration with pioneering academic and research bodies in the Kingdom.
Researchers from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals took part in the project, measuring radiation levels in three area groups out of the 274 sites, while Taibah University, Imam Mohammad bin Saud University and Um Al-Qura participated similarly in the project on different sites.
