MAKKAH: In an innovative way to promote the motto “No To Obesity,” Saudi explorer Youssef Al-Ruwaily has made a journey on foot from Makkah to Al-Aflaj, an oasis in Riyadh province some 330 km south of the capital.
Al-Ruwaily was greeted upon arrival Monday by Al-Aflaaj Gov. Zaid Al-Hussein, who gave orders to provide him with all that he needs and to serve a lunch in his honor. The governor directed a security patrol to escort him within the area.
The 42-year-old explorer said that his journey started from Makkah, during which he passed through eight regions and provinces and that he will continue his walk until he reaches Asir region.
Al-Ruwaily said he had permission to carry out his journey on foot from the General Presidency of Youth Welfare, which aims to encourage Saudis to exercise and practice sports to reduce obesity.
He carries in his pushcart all his requirements, including a battery-powered light to ease his walking during the night, a charger for his mobile phone, through which he posted on Twitter pictures of his journey and of areas he visited.
