Police are trying to identify an unregistered expatriate who was arrested by Riyadh police for not having a valid iqama and who has since died.
The man is believed to be from India and was detained by the police during a routine inspection in Riyadh’s Al-Batha district.
According to Shihab Kottukad, an Indian social worker, Iqbal Sheramram fell ill during detention and was shifted to Al-Shumaisy Hospital on Friday. He died the next day.
At the time of his admission, he gave his name as Iqbal Sheramram. He told the hospital receptionist that he was from India. He is assumed to be an Indian national.
The police and the Indian Embassy are trying to locate his details and are planning to conduct a DNA test to ascertain his identity.
Police have requested members of the community or anybody with any knowledge about him to get in touch with them or with the Dirriya police station in Riyadh.
