Efforts are under way to establish a new industrial city in Makkah on an area of 7.6 million square meters, said Ameen Naib Al-Haram, assistant mayor of Makkah for investment development.
“We have also planned to establish an automobile city where people can find all requirements of their vehicles including spare parts and workshops,” he said, adding that the move was aimed at cleaning and reorganizing the holy city. He said the new automobile city, spreading on four million square meters, would be ready within two years.
Speaking to reporters after opening Al-Otaibiya Commercial Complex in Makkah, he said the mayoralty has nothing to do with increasing prices of investment sites in Makkah, saying investors themselves had created the hike. The commercial complex, which was established at a cost of SR 30 million, houses a number of shops selling electronic devices.
Naib Al-Haram spoke about the important role of commercial centers in promoting business. “If the private sector does not come forward to establish them, then the municipalities have to do so to meet public needs,” he said.
Hadhari Hamam, chairman of the board of directors of Asr Al-Jawal group, said the new commercial complex is located close to the Grand Mosque and meet the requirements of shoppers, especially electronic devices. He thanked the mayoralty for its support to the investment project.
