Jeddah is undertaking various road projects worth SR 1.1 billion including the construction of various tunnels and bridges, said the mayor’s Undersecretary for Urban Projects and Construction Ibrahim Kutubkhana.
The work includes the conversion of Prince Majed Road (Sabeen Street) and King Fahd Road (Sittin Street) into highways. The construction of tunnels and bridges at the intersections of these two roads has been awarded to contractors, he added.
Contractors have already started working on the intersections of Darraja (bicycle) Roundabout, King Fahd Roundabout, Al-Jawad Alabyad, Industrial Institute and Sultan bin Salman Street on King Fahd Road that will be a highway stretching from King Abdul Aziz International Airport in the north to Jeddah Islamic Port in the south.
Another two important projects where work will start soon are the intersections at Bani Malik Road and Prince Majed Road, and Prince Majed Road and King Abdullah Road. The Prince Majed Road and Old Makkah Road intersection project will be completed by the end of this year.
After completing projects on King Fahd Road, work will start at the intersections of King Abdul Aziz Road and Andalus Road. A highway will be built from here to the Marine Science Roundabout.
Prince Majed Road will eventually be linked to Jeddah Southern Corniche where five intersections will be constructed after designs and studies are completed and property expropriation and compensation are sorted out.
