Book tells about King Abdullah’s contributions to education

A new book on Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’s service to the rapid growth of education in the Kingdom begins with his words “Education in the Kingdom has become a role model. It is the main pillar for investment and growth. The upcoming generations are the real wealth and so caring for them is our primary goal.”
The “Education During the Reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah,” which serves as a reference source on the development of education in the Kingdom, is authored by 25 professors of the College of Education at the Umm Al-Qura University, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday.
Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Khoja launched the work at the opening function of the Riyadh International Book Fair recently. Higher Education Minister Khaled Al-Anqari and President of the Umm Al-Qura University Bakri Assas were present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Assas said the idea of writing the book was conceived a year ago during the celebration of the Fourth Teachers’ Conference at the Teachers College.
Rector of the college Zayed Al-Harithy said the book highlights the efforts of the king to make rapid progress in the education sector with the launch of a number of new schools, universities and research facilities.
It also covers incentives for teachers, students and educational institutions, the King Abdullah Foreign Scholarship Program and efforts to attract the best brains in the world to bring Saudi students of higher education and research to levels comparable to advanced countries.
The book also contains references to the king’s efforts to bring women to top positions in the field of school and higher education.
