It’s a matter of great happiness that Indian women can now use their smart phones to save and protect themselves from notorious and anti social elements.
This application has been launched after the Delhi gang rape tragedy so that women can inform the police, their relatives or family friends when they need help. It was started by four businesswomen who set up safecity.in, a website for victims of harassment to channel their anger.
The site encourages them to report incidents of harassment and abuse ranging from catcalling to abuse or rape, which are added to an online map and sent to those requesting alerts.
It also has an SOS button to alert emergency contacts and let relatives or friends track the user’s journey. It has got an encouraging and healthy response from all sections of the society. It is a boon for those women who work in late night shifts, and will surely serve mainly those working in metros.
It also encourages women to share their agony, pain and problems and even domestic violence for which they can seek help. And when in distress they can contact through this site and seek help.
I hope it works out well and reaches to each and every woman who is in need of it and can punish those notorious people and uproot evil from society so that woman are safe and can live freely. — Sameena, by e-mail
