Toyota and PSI arranged a best-of-three series for the Inter-Company Bonafide B championship with Firewind Rovsky and Centerpoint to slug it out for the Friday Morning Division crown in the 2012 Boy Tevez Basketball Tournament organized by Overseas Filipino Basketball League (OFBL) at the Time-out Sports Academy gymnasium on Television Street, Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Both championship games start today.
Toyota avenged its elimination round defeat to Bahra Cable 86-59 while PSI clinched the first final slot by taking down Al Rabie in a pair of crossover knockout semifinal games. PSI was the No. 1 qualifier, Al Rabie No. 4 while Toyota and Bahra qualified as the second and third teams.
In the Friday Morning Division, Rovsky won a close game against OBS Boys 93-92 but Centerpoint had little trouble disposing of Dabarkads 82-66 during last week’s semifinal. Rovsky and Centerpoint, a familiar team in morning leagues in the town, start their title showdown at 9 a.m. today in the tournament supported by Al-Zugbi Sports Tailoring, Amaia Land, Pinoy Photographers Club (PPC), Art’s Cuisine and Time-out.
Powerhouse Mahmoud Gharib told Alishar to look elsewhere for a win after it hammered out a 62-46 victory in their match. Alishar had an encouraging start, taking a 20-15 first quarter lead only to fade in the second period when the enemy came together and grabbed the lead on back-to-back threes from Tudla and Baniel.
From a slim 68-64 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the final period PSI pulled away thanks to Baluyot and Mabarit, who returned to the court after a brief rest due to foul trouble.
During the eliminations, Bahra Cable showed tremendous basketball to beat almost all the teams it faced including Toyota. But on this night Toyota bounced back in the all-important game between them.
After the first quarter of play, Toyota was up by 6 points. The wide-bodied Gabiana tried to hound but can’t matched up against the much bigger and much more aggressive guys like Atli, Borcegue and Llamado who took charge for Toyota.
ALJ Hospital of Jimmy Abdullah Beltran eliminated the struggling Ibn-Sina 110-55 in Inter-Hospital Division as it stayed on course for a place in the final.
Andaluz got another victory this time against Al-Zamil 83-78. Compass also won, beating Double B 85-75 while Tawzea Water routed winless Bemco 82-65.
