King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals is organizing a meeting of its alumni at the Jeddah Hilton today in order to mobilize their support for the university’s academic projects including its endowment fund.
Mohammed Al-Shahri, director general of public relations and spokesman of KFUPM, told Arab News that he expects more than 2,000 graduates to take part in the event aimed at keeping them connected with their Alma Mater and making use of their expertise.
KFUPM is one of the best universities in the Kingdom and boasts more than 27,000 graduates, some of them with important positions in the government and private sector. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman, assistant minister for petroleum affairs, Khalid Al-Falih, president and CEO of Saudi Aramco, Dr. Hashim Yamani, president of King Abdullah City for Nuclear and Renewable Energy and Dr. Mohammed Al-Suwaiyel, president of King Abdulaziz City of Science and Technology are among them.
The Jeddah meeting comes as part of the university’s golden jubilee celebrations. Similar meetings are planned in Riyadh and Dhahran. “A variety of programs will be conducted to activate the alumni’s role in the university’s development,” said Al-Shahri.
In the morning session, there will be workshops conducted by prominent alumni members to discuss what must be done to make relations between graduates stronger, he added.
There will be presentations by senior officials on the university’s academic initiatives and development projects, as well as its strategic plan, international advisory council and global cooperation program.
