JEDDAH: THE Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) has recently organized a training course on Hijazi Alrouachin craft for 15 youths from Makkah province at the Jeddah Secondary Industrial Institute.
"The course aimed to develop the skills and abilities of young people in this craft through making an integrated tourist product based on natural raw materials, as well as maintaining the intellectual and cultural identity of Jeddah, which is one of the oldest traditional crafts passed down through generations," said Mohammed Al-Omari, SCTA executive director in Makkah province.
"The students trained for three weeks on all types of woods used in this craft, learning how to maintain the timber and the process of wood sanding and painting," course trainer Mustafa Al-Sabag explained.
