RIYADH: Istisqa (rain-seeking) prayers were performed Monday morning throughout the kingdom, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah earlier called for prayers two days ago pursuant to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to perform Istisqa in case of drought or delay in rainfall.
The king had called on all to pray to Allah Almighty for repentance, forgiveness, and rain.
According to SPA, prayers were performed at universities and schools in various regions.
At the Holy Mosque of Makkah, the Istisqa prayer led by Sheikh Dr. Saud bin Ibrahim Al-Shuraim, with Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Khudhairi, undersecretary of principality of Makkah region, and Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, president general of the Affairs of the Grand Holy Mosque, in attendance.
In Madinah, Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the region's governor, attended the prayer at the Prophet's Holy Mosque led by Sheikh Ali Al-Huzaifi.
Riyadh region Gov. Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, and Vice Governor Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz attended the prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque.
The prayer was led by Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia and president of the Council of Senior Scholars and General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, who called in his sermon for adherence to the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet's Sunnah.
Istisqa prayers were also performed in other regions of the Kingdom, with various officials in attendance.
