IISJ chairman: Always available for community service

The managing committee of the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) has worked on many changes in the school since their appointment almost a year ago.
“If the community wants to talk to me as a chairman, I am ready. The community is the best judge. It can evaluate and compare our work,” said chairman Khusheed Akthar.
“We solved a lot of problems concerning administration, academics and finance in the school, he said. “We heard grievances of the parents, teachers and non-teaching staff and solved their issues concerning appointments and terminations.
We had no terminations this year. We reinstated previously terminated staff and issued visas for needy teachers,” he said.
The committee is working on solutions concerning the school buildings.
“The girls’ campus has had some problems. Initially Prince Majed had gifted the land to us, but now the ministry has fixed a rent. We are now trying to sign a lease agreement, with the help of the Indian authorities, to save the school that educates about 6,000 girl students,” Akthar explained.
An extension is needed to the girls’ campus, the chairman said. The committee would like to expand from 9 to 12 classes per year group, especially for science students.
“Parents have requested to put their daughters in the science stream. But we cannot increase the students’ number because of the lack of the space. Therefore, we are planning for extension to the campus at the same time,” he added.
To accommodate more boys who can now not be admitted due to space constraints, the committee is looking for a new school building, with spacious grounds for sports and physical activities,” said Akthar.
“We are trying our level best and are doing all this work as volunteers. Everything is going fine and we are gradually improving on all school’s affairs. But to convert dreams into reality more time is required,” he explained.
