This is in response to the letter “Unfounded accusations.” I think the author used a clever selective pick and choose tactics while commenting on Jamal Khashoggi’ article. Instead of addressing the menace of militant mindset that has increased many folds since Gen. Zia-ul-Haq’s era of 1980s, he attempted to hide behind some statistics over iodine and polio vaccination.
There is no harm in accepting the fact that militant mindset is far worse than actual militancy which Pakistan is confronted with today. When we talk about militancy, we believe that some uneducated, poor and brainwashed youth take to violence.
However, a militant mindset is not limited to slums and educational deprivation. It’s an issue with educated class as well. We need to combat and defeat this mindset only then we as a nation can prosper. — Masood Khan, Jubail
