Malayalam News journalist passes away

Respected journalist and Kerala bureau chief for Malayalam News, a sister publication of Arab News, A. Shamsudeen, died in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday. He was 62.
He was admitted to the Srichithra Medical Center on Thursday after a heavy brain hemorrhage and subsequent stroke. His condition deteriorated yesterday.
He is survived by his wife Bushra, deputy director of the Agricultural Department, a son, Subin, a software engineer in the USA and a daughter, Febin, a manager at Vodafone.
A senior journalist who was actively involved in the field for 32 years, Shamsudeen started his career at Malayala Manorama in 1980. When SRPC started publishing a Malayalam newspaper from Jeddah in 1999, he joined as the Kerala bureau chief and made significant contributions to the development of the paper.
Shamsudeen had a law degree but began his career in journalism after a brief stint in government service.
Chief minister of Kerala, Ommen Chandi, speaker of the Legislative Assembly, G. Karthikeyan, Ministers P.K Kunjalikutty, M.K Muneer, Ibrahim Kunju, P.K Abdurabb, Manjalamkuzhi Ali and Chief Whip of Kerala P.C George expressed their condolences.
Tarek A. Mishkas, editor in chief of Malayalam News, released a statement in which he said that Shamsudeen's invaluable contributions would be remembered for a long time. He played a crucial role in the growth and development of Malayalam News since its beginning as a sincere, honest and hardworking journalist.
The editorial board of Malayalam News also issued a statement of condolences.
