The Friday editorial has rightly emphasized the importance of teachers for the society and the country. Yes, it is not an easy profession and is not a matter of just passing the knowledge. In fact, it is to be opted by the ones who are not only qualified in the respective field, but also have the forbearance capacity. Besides, teachers should have different capabilities including the ability to understand the psyche of different students and treat each student in the class not only in accordance with his intellectual capacity but also have to bear in mind different familial background of students.
A teacher plays a pivotal role in upbringing of the children and inculcating in them discipline and manners. Therefore, teachers rightly deserve respect of not only the students but of the entire society as they hold the key for shaping up and strengthening the morals and values in the students.
Unlike other professions, a teacher is required to give his time outside the school hours in planning lessons, updating knowledge and learning evolving methods of teaching.
Unfortunately, in many countries, due to heavy demand and absence of good public schools, education has become a lucrative business and means of making money, though, there are some institutions which really work hard to employ skilled teachers and charge reasonable fee. — Safi H. Jannaty, Dammam
