Jeddah gets its first rains of 2012

The skies of Jeddah were overcast yesterday, offering a respite from a strong sun for those looking to take a stroll along the newly refurbished Corniche. The clouds, however, brought rain, as well.
Light to heavy showers hit several parts of the city yesterday, but the overall effect on the life in Jeddah was minimal. The municipality has spent millions constructing roads and tunnels designed to prevent the flooding and destruction seen in recent years.
The rest of the weekend is expected to be wet. The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) reported Thursday morning that thunderstorms are likely to lash the Makkah region today.
According to a PME official, the chance of rain extended over much of the Hijaz and contiguous regions. Thunderstorms are likely at higher elevations with a chance of fog in the Asir region, Al-Baha and Taif. Temperatures are predicted to decrease in these areas, as well. Rain also hit Hail and Qasim and was accompanied by winds blowing at 15 km to 38 km per hour.
Residents of Jeddah can also expect a sharp fall in temperature today with a predicted maximum temperature of 31 degrees C and a minimum of 23 degree C. There is also a chance of rain in the city Today. Saturday should also see another slight decrease in temperatures in Jeddah.
