A specialized medical team from the Neuroscience Center at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam successfully performed a complex spinal surgery procedure, using the latest intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring technology.
According to Dr. Hossam Al-Habib, a neurosurgery consultant at King Fahd Specialist Hospital, the surgery was performed on an 18-year-old girl who suffered from curvature on both sides of the spine and convexity in the scapula rear right side. The curvature had to be rectified.
Al-Habib said: “The spinal cord was stabilized in the right direction without any side effects through the successful implementation of the intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring technology.”
He said the procedure took nearly nine hours, but reassured all concerned that “the patient is in good health and carrying out her daily life activities in a normal way.”
Al-Habib praised the spinal surgery program at KFSHD, describing it as one of the most advanced programs in the treatment of spinal defects and injuries.
