Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa inaugurated the National Theatre of Bahrain at the Bahrain National Museum on Monday.
The king attended a presentation on the architecture design of the theatre, which was inspired by the literary work “One thousand and one nights.”
He expressed admiration of the new cultural landmark and expressed pride in the theater's role in contributing to the progress of Bahraini society.
The king said that Bahrain has always been the hub for science, knowledge and culture and has been a bridge of cooperation between various civilizations and cultures.
King Hamad greeted Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) and Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, vice chairwoman and secretary-general of Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation, who attended the inauguration with King Hamad and Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, prime minister of Bahrain. Also present at the inauguration were Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, foreign minister of Bahrain; Sheikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, minister of culture of Bahrain; Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Mohieddin Khoja, Saudi Arabian minister of culture and information and Arab ministers of culture and officials representing several organizations and authorities.
The National Theatre of Bahrain's slogan is entitled “Invest in Culture” to serve the educational events, activities, festivals and art exhibitions as well as musical concerts and other activities that reflect peoples culture and heritage. In addition, the National Theatre can accommodate over 1,000 guests and is considered a cultural milestone for various cultural activities and performances at the level of the performing arts surrounded by an architectural masterpiece derived from the beauty of the Arabian heritage.
