Fallout of Petraeus scandal

According to media reports, the Pentagon has said that the top American commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged “inappropriate communications” with a woman who is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom Petraeus had an extramarital affair which forced the CIA chief to tender his resignation.
The sex scandal involving two top military officers could not have come at worse time for the US defense establishment when things are going from bad to worse in Afghanistan and the NATO’s withdrawal is looming. Resignation of main architect of Iraq and Afghanistan wars Gen. Petraeus and involvement of the NATO commander in Afghanistan, Gen Allen, add further miseries for US mission in Afghanistan. US authorities are trying hard to deal with the situation.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has ordered an immediate investigation and temporarily stopped Gen. Allen’s nomination as commander of the US European command. — Khawaja Umer Farooq, Jeddah
