Saudi roads need traffic men

This refers to the report, “Saudi roads among most dangerous.” (Nov. 8) The conference, which was held in Abu Dhabi to discuss road safety in GCC countries says’ “On an average, 19 road fatalities occur every day in the Kingdom.”

I agree with the report as everyday, when I reach home, I thank Allah a million times. I have seen the chaos and mayhem of how recklessly we drive here. We are indeed among the most traffic law-breaking people in the world — no respect for traffic signs, no traffic discipline.

This may be attributed to a simple fact that we do not have enough traffic policemen, period. It is only through these cops that traffic violations that take place on daily basis could be brought under check. — Alwee Attas, Jeddah
