This refers to the story, “Chinese cars gaining popularity in the Kingdom” (Nov. 6). It was disappointing to note that there was no mention of safety aspect in the whole report. Price and fuel efficiency are not only the factors that one looks at while buying a car, the safety is most important concern. In fact these cars are sold at a lower price compared to non-Chinese cars particularly because of the fact their safety standards have been compromised. Geely brand mentioned in the report has an overall very poor safety record. In 2010 one of their models was awarded the lowest possible score in a South American crash test. Given the dangerous driving conditions in Saudi Arabia one should think carefully before purchasing a car merely based upon price. Do a good search for vehicles of interest online before spending your hard-earned money on something that may cost much more in the long run in vehicle repairs, poor resale and most importantly, safety. — Muhammad Saifudin, Alkhobar
