Physiotherapy, Catering keep winning; Rehab Nursing bounces back

Physiotherapy and Catering-Fire Department teams marched to their fourth straight wins while Rehab Nursing recovered from its previous defeat during the fourth week of action in the 2nd PSMMC-Sports Affair Basketball Club (SABC) Inter-Department Basketball tournament at the Prince Sultan Military Medical City Skydome basketball court here.
Zahran Housekeeping’s bid to win its third game failed despite all-out efforts by playing coach Moner Camad and cagers Jay Camad, Oscar Pascua, Nurasid Omar and Edwin Ariola.
Edgar Jimenez’s Physiotherapy squad considered every encounter risky and with the combo of Mitchelle Lacap, Lito Manalo, Dennis Suare, Muktar Abdullah and Neljun Abacial closed the first half in front at 45-43.
Housekeeping grabbed back the lead to end the third quarter 61-60 but there was stopping the Therapists in the final quarter as they sealed a 12-point margin of victory 92-80.
Crowd favorite Prince Sultan Nursing of Lino Sabalboro went down to its second defeat courtesy of Catering-Fire Department team of Gerry Roc.
Rey Zornosa, Lorvic Baroma, Ferdie Ligan, Victor Yabut and Eric Abanes combined to take the upper hand in the first two quarters at 17-14 and 35-33.
During the third period, Janduane Camins, Joseph Rapsing and Peter Merquita orchestrated their good play and along with Ryann Fabregas and Rommuel Alega regained the momentum to close the period at 58-51 which opened the door for them to remain undefeated in four outings with a 78-69 victory.
Rehab Nursing of playing coach Eric Calubayan turned back Prosthetics 59-53 in a low-scoring game.
The winning team led by Al Laquiban, Mikko Bernardino, Michael Ramos, Aljay Natividad and Jay Ar Cruz never lost its composure to take control until the end.
The week also featured defending champion External Medicine of Reggie Salonga winning over Portering team of Rodel Javillonar in a 77-62.
The tournament sponsors are Mobily Mabuhay, Enjaz, Western Union, PAG-IBIG Fund and Systagenix.
