Combating corruption in private sector

An official report has categorized two types of corruption in the private sector: One connected to the employees, where they abuse power and get involved in bribery and blackmail, and the other an institutional one that is linked to big projects. The report indicated that additional reasons behind corruption are tardiness of administrative procedures, complicated work procedures, vague and conflicting regulations and inefficient and slow controls.
The report was issued in coordination with the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry in an effort to try and determine mechanisms to combat corruption in the private sector.
The report indicated that the hazards of corruption in the private sector are manifested in wasting money and resources, as well as jeopardizing peoples’ health in the cases of bribery and corruption in the medical and food production fields.
Chairman of Madina’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Al-Khatrawi said the chambers of commerce and industry will have a role in setting accurate and efficient plans to combat corruption as agreed upon during discussions with the council.
Cooperation in this matter is a national duty, said Al-Khatrawi, adding that we need to raise more awareness among businessmen and corporations to combat corruption through all possible means.
