Authorities in Makkah have warned that any attempt to exploit Haj for political or any other purpose will be dealt with an iron hand.
“The huge Islamic gathering of Haj will not be allowed to deviate from its acknowledged purpose. Any attempt to exploit Haj taking place at this holy land for any purpose other than the holy rites will not be tolerated,” Commander of the Haj Security Maj. Gen. Saad Al-Khelaiwi said, while speaking at a meeting of the commanders and officers of the public security for Haj in Mina yesterday.
Director General of Public Security Gen. Saeed Al-Qahtani chaired the meeting.
All departments of the Public Security are fully geared up to ensure smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage under the supervision of Interior Minister Prince Ahmed who is the chairman of the Supreme Haj Committee, Al-Qahtani said.
The authorities are keen to ensure the safety and security of all pilgrims and remove any difficulties the pilgrims might face while discharging their religious duties, Al-Khelaiwi said.
He added that this year 2,951 cameras are installed to monitor the movement of pilgrims at the holy sites and the central zone, and on ring roads in addition to 13,000 cadets from the various training institutes of public security to help the security forces during the pilgrimage.
Political use of Haj will not be tolerated
