The buggest illegal and unorganized market of weapons is in northern Pakistan, and the authorities cannot ban it because of its sheer size. The availability of weapons created the will among people there to own them, and when a human being owns a weapon he desires to use it, even in the form of self-defense. Therefore, neither will Afghanistan nor Northern Pakistan cool down. Even Balochistan, a province in Pakistan, has witnessed enmities and killings of people, not as a result of wars or beliefs, but for family and tribal revenges, and even for unrestrained jokes.
Vladimir Putin, the controversial Russian leader who became the president for a second time of one of the most powerful countries of the world, though a fragile democracy, issued, two months ago, a very strange law that forbids Russian civil organizations from receiving any foreign aid, although receiving foreign aid is an international convention followed by many organizations that receive aid from special bodies of the United Nations.
This law surpassed any law issued by any of the cruelest bygone dictators. What Putin did is unprecedented, and we shall see whether it will entail bad consequences or will be for his good.
The unhealthy instinct of dictatorship overwhelmed Putin’s mind which prompted him to bring in this law. What concerns us here is that Putin, two years ago, when he was prime minister, inaugurated a “bazaar” for weapons in the literal meaning of the word. A bazaar for not only ordinary weapons, but for every kind of the most sophisticated weapons in which you could see Syrians, Africans, Asians, and those who are motivated by the killing machinery wandering around to choose weapons. When I read a complete report in the American magazine “Time” with photos, I was really shocked to see a “bazaar” for human destruction out there for mere wild pleasure. Those who come to power and look like normal people like us, once they settle in their seats without any accountability, and once the hypocrites start surrounding them, they get tempted by the most awful evil; the abusiveness of power. And you know the rest of the story!
