Dubai expo to showcase lighting design, technology

Light Middle East (LME), a three-day trade fair and conference, is expected to attract the entire gamut of the lighting design and technology industry in the region.
With a large number of regional projects dedicated to sustainable development and clean energy across the Gulf countries, LME 2012 is expected to reflect these latest trends and showcase the latest products and developments from leading international manufacturers.
The growing international preference for more efficient lighting solutions, better design and environmentally friendlier technology is increasingly reflected across the Middle East region and will drive interest at LME, taking place from Oct. 1 to 3 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Since its inception seven years ago, Light Middle East has attracted trade professionals, architects, designers, project managers and developers from around the region.
"Light Middle East reflects the needs of the regional marketplace and presents exhibitors with the opportunity to expose their products and services to this sector," said Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of organizer, Epoc Messe Frankfurt."
The increase in local energy demands means Gulf countries are looking at alternative sources of energies with renewable initiatives such as solar power taking centre stage. The 100-megawatt capacity Shams 1 on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi is set for completion this year while in Dubai plans are underway for a 1,000-megawatt solar power plant. Following on this trend, manufacturers with solar powered lighting solutions will be amongst the prominent players at this year's Light Middle East.
