Mursi arrives for Islamic summit

Egyptian President Muhammad Mursi arrived here yesterday to attend the emergency Islamic solidarity summit in Makkah, which began in the holy city later in the night.
On arrival at King Abdulaziz Airport, President Mursi was received by Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed and other senior officials.
OIC Secretary-General Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu met with Mursi in Cairo last month to discuss the main issues to be tackled by the summit.
Ihsanoglu also congratulated Mursi for being elected as president and highlighted Egypt's role in the Islamic world as one of the largest Muslim countries. He also discussed Syrian crisis and the situation of Muslims in Myanmar with the president.
The Makkah summit is the fourth emergency conference to be convened by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation since its formation in 1969. The third summit, which was also held in Makkah, adopted a 10-year action plan to strengthen the 57-member organization, the second largest after the United Nations.
