Qatif riots quelled, wanted man held

Police arrested a wanted man while controlling rioters in Qatif Thursday night.
“Police put down acts of rioting such as torching car tires at several locations in Qatif sub-governorate in the Eastern Province past midnight on Thursday. They arrested a number of rioters including Muhammad Al-Shakhouri, a man figuring in the list of 23 wanted men issued in January,” spokesman of the Interior Ministry Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said in a statement quoted by the Saudi Press Agency.
“Security forces brought the acts of rioting under control and nobody was injured in the incidents,” Al-Turki said.
It was reported two weeks ago that security forces foiled an attack on a police station in the town of Awamiya in Qatif, killing a masked gunman. Four policemen were injured in a separate assault on their patrol the same day.
Security forces also arrested Nimr Baqer Al-Nimr, one of the instigators of the Awamiya riots on July 8.
