The high numbers of newborn babies switched by accident or kidnapped in many hospitals, has led to the implementation of a new security program at the medical center of the Royal Commission in Yanbu.
The high tech system involves placing an electronic bracelet on the wrist of the mother and one on the ankle of the baby immediately after birth. The identity of mother and baby is recognized and matched through electronic vibration.
“This new early-warning system, monitored around the clock, will ensure no baby is switched by accident or given to a woman other than his or mother,” said Rafaat bin Abdul Aziz Idriss, director of the commission’s health services.
