The Jeddah municipality has lifted restrictions on the utilization of 1,071 plots of land. These were part of 1,561 plots that the municipality had earlier stopped all types of construction works until the completion of some drainage and dam projects.
In a statement, Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras said the plots of land for which the municipality has given the go-ahead include 15 townships in the regions of Wadi Qus, Wadi Mathoub, Gulail, Al-Samer and Umm Al-Khair districts, in addition to the entire region west of the Haramain road, from the southern drainage canal in the south, to Sharm Obhur in the north.
Restrictions were imposed on these plots of land following devastating floods that struck the regions in November 2009 and January 2011.
The mayor said the decision was taken following an approval from Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal in line with the recommendation of the executive committee for drainage in Jeddah.
