Prince Mishari opens Baha summer festival

Baha Gov. Prince Mishari bin Saud inaugurated this year’s summer festival in the region on Sunday. The 40-day festival comprises 26 programs including cultural and sports events.
The programs will be held in Baha, Mandak and Qura, an official statement said, adding that they include a football tournament, an exhibition of products made by cottage industries, a health show, and a Dawa exhibition displaying modern means for preaching Islam.
Education Ministry will organize a painting exercise for children in Raghdan while the Youth Welfare Presidency will organize a sports-for-all event at King Saud Sports City. A variety of cultural contests will be held in Shafa, the statement said.
In Qura, 13 activities will be conducted, including a number of sports activities. The literary club in Baha will organize a cultural evening in Maashouka while a cultural caravan will be held in Mandak. A women’s forum will be organized in Wadi Al-Sadr and a festival for productive families will be held in Mandak.
The governor visited the Bedouin house at Raghdan resort, which is one of the activities of the festival. He joined a folk dance presented by a troupe from the region. He was accompanied by Deputy Gov. Dr. Hamid Al-Shammari, Baha Mayor Muhammad Al-Majli and Police director Maj. Gen. Muhammad Al-Hatlani.
Meanwhile, Prince Mishari honored Walid bin Abdullah Al-Zahrani, a student of Abubaker Siddique School in Shuara, near Mikhwat for winning a gold medal at AYIE 2012, a concurrent exhibition of ITEX 2012 in Kuala Lumpur. “I am proud of you,” he told Al-Zahrani.
Saudi students won three gold medals during the event. Apart from Al-Zahrani, the winners included Saud Al-Shammari from Jubail and Amal Al-Zahrani from Alkhobar. Al-Zahrani won gold for his project to make bends in roads safer in the transport and communication sector while Al-Shammari received the top honor for his project called “Grateful Walk” in the personal care sector. Amal won gold for her initiative in childcare. Reem Nasser Al-Munie from Zulfi won a silver medal for her project in the education sector. Saudi students took part in the event with the support of King Abdul Aziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted (Mawhiba) and the Ministry of Education.
