Environment campaign launched in Abha

Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khaled launched the Abha Environment Campaign organized by the Abha Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) on King Khaled Road yesterday.
More than 60 tons of garbage were collected from parks and public places and disposed off as part of the campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. Several environmentally-friendly vehicles and equipment carrying awareness campaign boards and the logo of the Saudi Environmental Society (SENS) were taking part in the campaign.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, ACCI Chairman Abdullah Al-Mobti, who is also head of the guidance committee at the Abha branch of SENS, said a number of firms and organizations from the government and private sectors in the region are participating in the campaign.
“The campaign, which also aims to encourage positive conduct when interacting with the environment, coincides with the summer season when a large number of families from within the Kingdom and abroad flock to the Asir province,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Jalawi Al-Kirkuman, director general of education in the region, said his department carried out the cleaning campaign with the participation of students and authorities of various schools.
